Changing Motorcycle Grips On Bikes

Shop our Online Catalog: Motorcycle Grips

Motorcycle grips are one of the most common aftermarket parts someone will change on their bike especially a cruiser.

Motorcycle Grips With Skull EndsSport bike riders do not tend to put as much emphasis on changing grips for looks. Mainly the end caps or the grips get changed due to wear. On the other hand on a cruiser there are many variations of grips to suit the flavor of the rider. Most motorcycle grips for cruiser's are made from billet combined with rubber or some material that has some grip. I have seen grips that were just made from leather with fringes that looked very old school. So depending on what look you are going for you are bound to find a design that will fit the flavor of your ride.

Motorcycle grips are made by many manufacturers that produce aftermarket accessories for bikes. Kuryakyn is one that comes to mind as well as Ness Tech which is Arlen Ness's outfit. Jardine also has some very nice looking grips for your bike.

When it comes to grips for sport bikes you will mostly see grips made from rubber due to the performance demands and riding position of those bikes good grip is essential for riding. This does not mean you cannot put shiny or cool grips with a design on a sport bike. On the other hand a chopper does not have the aggressive riding position and therefore grips become a matter of enhancing the look of the bike more then something that is a needed piece for optimal safety and control of the bike. With this in mind you will see all sorts of designs. Grips with skulls or an ornate design is something quite common for a cruiser.Stilleto Endcaps For Motorcycle Grips

Another accent that goes hand in hand with this type of a modification is end caps. These are simply the end piece of the grip and this is where you can affix a mirror, or maybe a stiletto style spike, or maybe a skull. There are many end cap variations readily available.

Before You Replace Your Motorcycle Grips:

When you are thinking of replacing the grips for whatever reason make sure that you get the dimensions of your old grips or find some that are specifically made to fit your bike. You will need to make sure your new grips fit properly especially the throttle side which will have a throttle tube which ties in to your throttle cable to allow you throttle control. If the cable and the tube do not match up properly you will end up having possible issues including snapping the throttle control cable. Definitely not something you want to deal with when you are out on the road. So before changing things out make sure everything fits properly and if it does not go with a different set of motorcycle grips no matter how much you like them.
