Michelin Motorcycle Tires

Michelin Motorcycle Tires.

Michelin motorcycle tires are one of the products manufactured by the Michelin company located in France.  It is also famous for its trademark, the Michelin Man, which is one of the world's oldest and widely recognized trademark icons, not only as a trademark for the tire company, but is also understood to mean someone with rolls of fat around the waist area.  Michelin tires is the second largest tire company in the world, second only to Bridgestone.  Much of the testing for their products  is done on the race track which translates to  many wins over competitors in various race types.

Michelin motorcycle tires reflect the history of the company when the Michelin brothers who ran a rubber factory in France attempted to fix a bicyclist's flat tire which had been glued to the rim.  The first difficulty in repairing the tire was in removing it.  It took nearly 3 hours.  Then the tire was repaired, but only worked for a few yards before going flat again.  The brothers determined to build a better tire and this was the beginning of the growth of Michelin motorcycles tires as well as the production of tires for  many other kinds of vehicles.

In addition to Michelin motorcycle tires which are of the highest quality, Michelin makes tires for  other vehicles which require a quality tire. Michelin has also, at various times during its history been involved with automotive products other than the obvious.  For example, Renault and Michelin have collaborated in the production of automotive products.  Michelin owned the French automobile manufacturing company known as Citroen for about a forty year period.

Michelin has been winning races for years, in  both motorcycle and automobile racing.  Their street  type motorcycle tires are based on winning  race technology which has been translated over for street use. Michelin tires are vigorously tested to perform up to their highest quality standards.

Michelin motorcycle tires are popular both on street bikes and for those bikes which compete in challenging dirt bike or off road competitions.

The Michelin motorcycle tires in the Pilot series include the Pilot Power, Sport, and Pilot Road.  This class consists of excellent tires for the street.

Michelin motorcycle tires are available for all different types of motorcycles, including racbikes, sport bikes, combination road/sport, road bikes, urban bikes, cruiser and Gold Wing types.  Each of these models has Michelin motorcycle tires specially designed for the type of use most often required for the particular motorcycle.

Variables include such things as the tire tread, the thickness of the side walls, how soft the rubber design is, as well as size of the Michelin tire.

Although Michelin was a figure in Formula One racing for a time, there was major disagreement and objection to the way the race was being carried out and Michelin recently announced it would no longer be involved with Formula One racing.  This does not preclude the company from continuing to produce all types of tires both four wheel and two wheel in  design.

Over the years, Michelin has acquired several other manufacturers of tires and related equipment, including Uniroyal, originally known as United States Rubber Company and B.F. Goodrich.
